Targeted ads are a privacy violation. But what about influencer endorsements?

No, not at all. Unlike targeted ads that are ‘pushed’ out to consumers, people opt in to influencer content by following their accounts. Influencers don’t import your info, collect your email address, or gather data on you. You see their content when you choose to. This makes influencer marketing much better than ads for privacy.

Which social media platform pays the most for Social Media Influencers?

It’s not the platform that pays the SMI*, but the brands. And they often pay for you to post on ALL of your social media platforms/accounts, as they want word-of-mouth and attention — whatever wherever it takes!

If It’s Not Too Transactional, As You Said, Then What Am I Getting from Influencer Marketing at All?

Working with SMI* on social media cannot be too transactional. Social media software and UX were simply not built for it, and we cannot get around that basic fact. So instead, focus on getting leads and acquiring SMI followers.

*SMI = Social Media influencers. Source: Who is an influencer?

Yes, it’s all about leads and acquiring SMI followers.

True, top software platform strategists and architects of platforms such as Instagram and Twitter are now trying to change that – they are trying to re-engineer their system flows to promote and execute product buying, as if you’re interacting with a TV or eCommerce website. They are working on it.

Roundup debate: Do you agree: the reason people follow an Influencer is simply because they want to see MORE content? Surprising answers included.

Related: Roundup: Not all influencers are unethical, fake, or overpaid… Dear Mishu & friends tell it like it is.

In this roundup I was curious to hear from friends – some are SMI*, some are brands, and some are experts on something related – about their opinion on the question of whether SMI=Content is THE utmost reason why people hire SMI, or not. I got some interesting answers, posted below (scroll down to read mine at the bottom, after you’ve read friends’ answers first):

*SMI = Social Media influencers. Source: Who is an influencer?

Zizipho Jebe (@zii_jebz) I don’t agree that it’s simply for them to see more content from the influencers only. Yes, that’s part of it but there’s more to it than just that.
As an influencer and content creator, I feel that my audience follows me for various reasons. They’ve become more than just followers but a community.

People follow influencers on social media because they want to read and see things that resonate with them. They follow us to find friendship and trust in us. They want to be entertained, challenged, and inspired by the content we put out for them. They want to see posts that attract them into wanting to screen grab the post, save it and or share it because they know their friends or family would love it or just as a tool for inspiration and motivation. These are just a few reasons why I personally think people follow influencers on social media.

Branding Your #SocialMedia Profile Series #1: Your BSMP Photo

Branding Your Social Media Profile (BSMP) is a new 1-on-1 program that helps brands bring their social media profile and presence to the next level.

Related: Good influencers should help you seed your story in advance, so when you launch it won’t come …

The goal is to tell your story/narrative, and to share your differentiation vs the other 4 billion social media accounts, by using everything you’ve got at your disposal. When it comes to your profile photo, think colors, facial expressions, coffee cups, smiling pets, the ocean, a yoga pose — whatever you need to make sure your story gets told.

Although real-estate on your profile/bio is limited, you can tell your story through various elements: a 3-5 word sentence, a hashtag, or even through a …URL (don’t believe me? Here is an example: “website.com/BLM”)! And of course, your profile photo should tell your story too, since it’s the one of the first things your visitors look at.

So…how can you tell your story through a small photo??? There are three things to nail down here:

When beginning to work on your social media accounts, an area for immediate improvement that you may like to consider is your name. Yes, that’s right – your name is everything and a proven technique to to use your name to highlight your brand identity is by…. expanding it! Expanding your name will help visitors who care about what you do to “get it.” Let me explain, and don’t worry, I will provide examples.

Our social media names are usually composed out of 1-3 words (eg Drip, Jane Doe, Marry Daniel Berg or Moving & Storage Bros.). The idea is to take those words and clarify things, spice-it up, and use it to highlight your differentiation from the rest of the 3 billion social media accounts:
