Branding Your Social Media Profile (BSMP) is a new 1-on-1 program that helps brands bring their social media profile and presence to the next level.

This series of articles is an introduction to some of the techniques and experiments that have been proven to make this underutilized real estate work for you.

In past BSMP* series article I explained how you can optimize YOUR story-telling through your profile photos, extended name, update line, profile description, hashtags, CTA and URL. Today I will show you something new, related to SMI* on – yes – your profile.

*BSMP = branded social media profile, a term that was coined by… me.

1 – Benefits of Having SMI on Your Profile

First – in case you were hiding under a Byzantine era rock for the past few years —

Social Media Influencer (SMI) is:
(1) Someone who owns a social media account (min. 50 followers), such as on Tiktok, IG, YouTube, etc.

And – very important too –

(2) Uses it for great – no, amazing – relationship building AND/OR content sharing with their followers.

We all know about the boost we can get when we hire the right influencer, right?

  1. Feedback – for your product, web-page, your new app version, new slogan, logo, packaging, etc.
  2. Attention – they are trusted, their content/posts are frequently read and consulted with, they will bring you the attention, which is very scarce these days.
  3. Access to new communities, some that we haven’t dreamed of
  4. Recognition
  5. Virality
  6. Etc.

2 – SMI Name on Your Profile

There are 1.5 Billion SMIs out there – just choose one, and then add their name to brand your profile – it will help a LOT.

Here are some examples of how to do that:

Do you get the picture? These examples can associate you with the SMI and will take you to a new level in terms of your social media presence, as well as traffic and clicks.

Pro Tip: You should pay the SMI you work with. Why? Because you are now associated with them, and you want them to be super happy partners!!

3. Your Brand Name on the SMI Profile

Yes, once you hire an SMI, include in the contract that the SMI will add your brand and your social link to their Profile. That will bring authority and link you two at a higher level on the social media algorithm, as well as in the SMI’s community members’ hearts.

Pro Tip: It will be great if you can convince your SMI to add your unique hashtag too – this way the Linkability of your content, your story, the SMI and both your followers will be perfect!

4. Cultivate Further

Keep the SMI name on your profile for over a month. Do you see much difference in your results? Do you get more interest? Are people paying more attention? Are you getting more traffic? New followers? New engagements? If so, mark down the word “success” in your BSMP plan, and then – cultivate your partnership further, such as: asking the SMI to open an Amazon page for your products affiliation, launch new product lines with the SMI’s name on it, and what not – anything both sides agree to.

5 – Platform Config

Here are the steps to update your BSMP profile with the SMI of choice (I took Instagram as an example because of it’s popularity and mainstream user experience methods). Look how easy it is:

Step 2: Enter the line about the SMI into the “Bio” field.

Step 3: “Done” (or “Save” on other platforms)

That’s it, the profile change is really simple and easy.

6 – Your Differentiation

The idea is to differentiate your account vs the other 4 billion social media profiles that don’t do the same thing you do.

Finding the right relevant SMI will help a lot in telling YOUR unique story with clarity, thru them, and so, if xyz SMI can help you in doing so, Hallelujah!

7 – The Rest is Up to You**

All the rest is up to you – and the SMI you’ve chosen – her look, attitude, visuals, etc. Be creative – express yourself. Dare. Go Crazy! Because if you just do what your neighbor from the same area-code did, people won’t “see the you* in you” and it won’t work.

Pro Tip: Test test test… Try different SMI, and different words/messages related to them, on different week days, different weeks, different festivals. It’s OK – and even recommended – to change it up often, to make a mistake. And t’s OK to leave it open ended, see what works the best and nail it right there. Testing your* ultimate SMI name of choice through mistakes is the only way to find out!

PS/as long as it’s YOU

What Do We Mean by YOU**

**YOU= Since it’s your name, it has to be…you. What I mean is that – yes, you can add attitude, special characters, emojis, a unique photo, wording, hashtags, crazy URL, powerful CTA, SMI of choice, whatever, as long as it comes from you, and as long as it reflects your brand, who you are, and where you want to be.
